David & Valerie’s Wedding

Filed Under (Wedding) by Robert on September 21, 2008

David and Valerie live in Seattle for part of the year and in Chicago for the summer months where they had decided to have their wedding. Many of their guests traveled from as far as France to celebrate their wedding. They had the most gorgeous outside ceremony at the Lincoln Park Conservatory where Valerie had arrived in this really cool antique Bentley. The reception was then held at the exclusive Cliff Dwellers Club high atop the Borg-Warner Building. The view from the outside terrace was amazing. David and Valerie were extremely fun loving which really shows in their photographs. Here are a just a few of my favorite images.

Boston Trip

Filed Under (Personal) by Robert on September 6, 2008

Boston is such a cool city and easy to get around. I think it’s one of the top walking cities in the U.S. and the train system gets you around anywhere you want to go. It’s so rich in history. The freedom trail is a quick way to see a lot of that history. If you’re ever out out there, you have to look up Frank Bernard who does caritures right outside at Faneuel Hall. He’s awesome and a great guy!

Andy & Emily Get Engaged

Filed Under (Engagement) by Robert on July 13, 2008

Andy & Emily flew up to Chicago from Florida to see a show. Little did Emily know, Andy had much bigger plans! He suprised her with a marriage proposal on the beach where me and my assistant discretely waited for the big moment. Afterwards we finished up with some more pictures around Navy Pier. They were a fun couple to photograph, here are a few highlights.

Bikram & Ramita Engagement Party

Filed Under (Engagement) by Robert on June 15, 2008

Bikram & Ramita had a spectacular engagement party aboard a cruise boat on Lake Michigan. The boat departed from Navy Pier in the afternoon, and cruised the lake while all the guests partied and danced on board. Indian events are some of my most favorite to photograph and participate in because everyone just has such a fun time. Here are some highlights

Jarred & Jenn’s Wedding at the Chicago School of Arts

Filed Under (Wedding) by Robert on April 28, 2008

Jarred & Jenn are a very cool couple I met last year. Their wedding was at the elegant Chicago School of Art’s Institute Ballroom. The ballroom has incredible architecture and made for a perfect setting for wedding photographs. I’m grateful to have been a part of their wedding day! Here is a small collection of highlights.

Hao & Xiran’s Engagement

Filed Under (Engagement) by Robert on March 7, 2008

What a time I had photographing Hao & Xiran. They’re a high spirited, energetic couple that were up for anything, undaunted by the cold & snowy weather. This made for a great setting at the lakefront. Their wedding is coming up soon and will be held cruising the lake on the Mystic Blue which should be amazing. Here are a few of my favorite images from the engagement session.

Featured in Antidull

Filed Under (Landscape, Wedding) by Robert on February 29, 2008

I’m pretty stoked to have several of my landscape images featured in this months Antidull Online Art Magazine. The Art Photography issue #2 on about page 28 features 2 of my images. If you’ve been in Chicago lately, you may be able to relate to one of those images with this year’s winter. For more of my landscape work, have a look at my landscape photography website.

What makes a great wedding image? Creamy, soft bokuh—that out of focus background. Yes, this technique is great and often times perfect when you really want to make the subject stand out from the surroundings. I use this technique often especially during many of the photojournalistic moments and casual portraits.

What can be more difficult, yet much more rewarding when done right is being able to integrate the landscape surroundings with the wedding subject into an image, especially in the Midwest where we have no mountains. I’ve been photographing landscape images for many years which has had a positive influence on my wedding imagery.
